Metin Ozer, PMI Human Resources Director Central Europe South (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania)
As
the leading company not only in the region, but in the world, Philip Morris
International (PMI) always has a great response from candidates regarding
vacancies. How do you recognize ideal candidate for the job among all that
candidates; what attributes and qualities do you appreciate?
Generally, we look for ambitious people,
with a diverse range of skills, fresh ideas and perspectives, and the desire to
succeed.
We look for people who are willing to work
in a challenging environment, across time zones and with multi-disciplinary
teams makes our business demanding and it will test their skills and talents to
the full.
Which
skills and knowledge are required for making successful career in PMI?
We seek for people who have a sense of
mental agility and leadership. Leadership is not simply about intelligence, but
also common sense and good natural instincts. At PMI the ideal candidate has to
think fast, absorb data and generate new ideas; while always keeping sight of
the whole business process. He/she needs to be a dynamic people manager, able
to delegate, set goals, give and listen to feedback.
Everyone who works for PMI consistently
demonstrates openness, honesty and trustworthiness. We look for people who show
the courage of their convictions and who are always comfortable working with
the team to find solutions.
Success means setting the stretching goals
and getting support from your team to achieve them. That demands flexibility,
openness and the strength of character to give credit to others when it is due.
Our leaders act consistently upon a combination of good judgment, insight, and
instinct.
PMI is represented in over 160 countries,
with 100 different nationalities and more than 80 languages. We are truly a
diverse organization. Our goal is to build an environment of equal
opportunities, where each employee can use their unique talents and work style
to contribute creative ideas to meet and exceed business and personal
objectives.
Do
you monitor employees’ career development after hiring them? If you do, can you
describe us that process?
At PMI we believe that talented people
given challenging experiences will generate growth and success for both
themselves and the company. For that, PMI has established the following
principles for individuals' development:
• Assess and develop against shared
standards.
• Promote an open dialogue based on
constructive feedback.
• Build awareness on employees'
aspirations.
• Optimal use of job assignments to
accelerate individual development and drive business growth.
• Hold manager and individuals accountable
for development.
Development is a shared responsibility and
is based on a partnership between the employee, his/her supervisor and the
organization as a whole. We encourage and celebrate success.
We believe in continually broadening our
employees' knowledge and skills through hands-on experience, challenging
assignments and focused training and development programs.
Our approach is to promote from within,
based on ability and achievement; we’ll encourage employees to take control of
their own career development from the day they start.
They’ll have regular feedback from their
supervisor on their performance and longer-term ambitions. Together, they will
create a development plan to get them where they want to go.
Employees’ performance and appraisal is
done through a global management tool to align individual performance with
business results and to develop individual and organizational capability to
face future business challenges. This management tool supports supervisors and
employees in defining annual business based objectives, assessing individual
performance and discussing and defining an individual’s career and development
needs.
